Window film for Museums

In Museums and galleries around the UK and across the world the ultraviolet from daylight can be a hazard to many of the materials found within these buildings such as important art and archival collections

Ultraviolet radiation from daylight is actually invisible to the human eye but the damage it can cause is huge. UV radiation can cause the fading of colour on certain items and can inherently damage fibres and polymers. Visible light and heat from the sun are responsible for approximately 50% of fade damage to any item that is exposed to it.

Because of this damage that sunlight can cause to the important exhibits it is essential that all naturally light museums and galleries use window films on their windows to block all unwanted sunlight and therefore filter the solar radiation, preventing any damage. Protection against sunlight is a must for museums, art galleries, libraries, and retail outlets for art, books, antiques, furniture, carpets, curtains and clothing etc. to help prevent any fading caused by harmful ultraviolent radiation. These harmful ultraviolent radiation which we already know can damage human skin, also have a similar effect on wood, paper, ceramics and other media, damaging them all. Once an item has faded or cracked because of exposure to ultraviolent radiation from the sun, it is then almost impossible to reverse the damage and return them to their original condition.
Building such as museums, Art galleries, historic homes, and many other archival settings have a need to protect and preserve furnishings, draperies, artwork, panelling and floors from the damaging rays of the sun. By applying window film to the existing window glass the museums and galleries can prevent the cause of deterioration of fabrics, furnishings and paint media the sun can cause without actually altering the external appearance of the windows or affecting visibility in any way.

If you feel window film isn’t the solution to help prevent further damage to items within a Museums or galleries then you should strongly recommend using Heavy-Duty Traditional Roller Blinds. In museums, art galleries and historic houses, where reduction of lux levels is a priority but where a tinted light-reducing filter is aesthetically or architecturally unacceptable, then roller blinds are the solution.

There are many suppliers of window films and window roller blinds who have a vast offering for the commercial requirements. Working with these companies Museum and gallery owners should determine the efficacy of several different films and roller blinds and select the one that best meets their requirements for completely blocking UV and reducing visible light to the desired level without altering colour values within their own museum.
Museum and gallery owners actually have a choice of either clear energy control window film instead of the normal window film or roller blinds if they also have a solar energy control issue. By using this type of window film means they can provide a more comfortable environment for their customers and employees while still protecting their valuable goods and artefacts against fading.

Safety First Aid Kits for Work

Whether you work in an office, factory or on a shop floor you are going to be faced with hazards and risks in your workplace. It’s always best to be prepared to handle any kind of medical emergency either at work or at home. There is a wide variation in the contents of first aid kits based on the knowledge and experience of those putting it together, the differing first aid requirements of the area where it may be used, and variations in legislation or regulation in a given area.

Under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 employers are legally obligated to provide first aid equipment, medical facilities and personnel to ensure all employees can receive medical attention if injured at work. By having the right medical equipment you can save lives and / or prevent minor injuries becoming major ones. First aid kits may be basic or comprehensive. Ready-made first aid kits are commercially available from chain stores or outdoor retailers.

Work places need to be assisted to establish whether there is the appropriate level of first aid provision available. The minimum requirement in any work place is a suitably stocked first aid kit. First aid kits are a collection of first aid supplies and medical equipment for use in giving first aid.

Commercially available first aid kits available via normal retail routes have traditionally been intended for treatment of minor injuries only. Specialised first aid kits are available for various regions, vehicles or activities, which may focus on specific risks or concerns related to the activity.

The contents of first aid kits should be based on an employer’s assessment of their first aid needs. There is no mandatory list of first aid items to put in a first aid kit but the minimum items for a low hazard environment are:

•Sterile plasters
•Sterile eye pads
•bandages
•safety pins
•Sterile large wound dressings;
•disposable gloves
Additional first aid supplies such as scissors, adhesive tape, Slings, Cotton buds, disposable aprons and moist wipes may also be stored in a first-aid kit. However it is highly recommended that employers do not store tablets and medicines of any kind in the first aid kit.

So now the next question is how often should the contents of first aid boxes be replaced? Well all the first aid items in the first aid box needs to be regularly checked. Items that which potentially have a dated life should be replaced if they are have gone beyond their expiry dates.

For other items that don’t have dates then it is a matter of judgement, based on whether they are still fit for purpose. However you need to remember that if an item is taken from the first aid box that it is replaced with a fresh new one.

Why Use a Card Payment Gateway

A card payment gateway is an online payment solution. Card payment gateways are a way to process transactions online which involve credit and debits cards. Card payment gateways are an essential tool in the electronic transactional process between customers, business and the banking institutions.

So a card payment gateway acts as portal for the money to be transferred through when an online sale occurs using a credit or debit card. A card payment gateway is the equivalent of a physical point of sale terminal you find in most retail shops. So in essence a Card Payment Gateway provides website owners with the ability to collect and process credit and debit card payments over the Internet. So without a card payment gateway a website is not able to take any payments of goods and/or services which are purchased online.

The main benefits of a card payment gateway are:

Security compliant

Card payment gateways insure that you are safe to handle online transactions. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS campliance) is a global standard covering the way in which card holder data should be handled. If a website is taking online payments then they need to be compliant with these PCI DSS security standards.

Card payment gateways protect both credit card and debit details by encrypting sensitive information, ensuring the information is passed securely between the customer and the merchant and also between merchant and the payment processor. Using a payment gateway means you don’t need to worry about meeting these compliance requirements as the card gateway provider will handle these security aspects for you.

Multi payment service provider support

Most card payment gateways will allow your website the ability to support multiple payment service provider (PSPs) and merchant accounts within a single implementation. This then allows the use of different PSPs for different commercial entities using the card payment gateway.

Instant payment

Using a payment gateway means Payments can be authorised in real-time guaranteeing the availability of funds. Funds are then automatically transferred to your account within 3 working days.

Easy integration

Most card payment gateways can be easy integrated into any website design meaning your website can become an eCommerce website with minimum effort and changes to your website.

Reduced Overheads

Card payment gateways save card processing time and free up resources to help improve your customer services. It means that fewer transactions need to be handled manually, or indeed require any manual intervention, hence freeing resources. Card payment gateways can also be expanded to use a recurring payments solution.

Convenience

By being able to take payments online means that you are able to take payments 24/7, 365 days a year from anywhere on the globe with any device with web access. By being able to process all sorts of credit and debit cards with a card payment gateway, you are increasing your customer base.

So if you are seriously thinking about turning your website into an eCommerce site or you want to build a website that can take online transaction then make sure you integrate a card payment gateway into your website.

There are many card payment gateway providers out there all offering different additional features. The best step is to research fully into this area and choose the best card payment gateway that best suits your website and industry.

Cannes Film Festival 2010

If you are a movie lover then you would have heard of the annual Cannes Film Festival. However for all you people that don’t know about this famous film festive then let me enlighten you. The Cannes film festival was originally founded in 1946 and is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals.

The Cannes film festival is a private ordeal that is held annually in the French town of Cannes in the south of France. The venue in Cannes for this popular event in any movies lovers’ calendar is the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès.

The Cannes film festival has always been seen as a reflection of its era. The festival is a showcase filmmaker’s talent in respect to all tastes and play homage to all contributors to the birth and distribution of films.

At the core of the Cannes film festival is the passion for motion pictures, the discovery of new talents, the enthusiasm of festival-goers and professionals from around the world. This years Cannes film festival will take place from 12th to 23rd May 2010 with the official selection being announced in mid-April.

Cannes 2010, which is now in its 63rd year, will be headed by Tim Burton, the film director famous for classic movies such as Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas and more recently Alice in Wonderland. Tim Burton is officially this years Jury President.

Over the years, the French Association of the International Film Festival has tried to evolve the film festival in Cannes whilst still retaining its prestige. As we know the film industry is constantly changing its boundaries. Because of this the film festival does not wish to simply coast along on the prestige of its name, but wants to be as pioneering as the industry it represents.

Upon accepting the invitation from Gilles Jacob and Thierry Frémaux, Tim Burton was quoted as saying: "After spending my early life watching triple features and 48-hour horror movie marathons, I’m finally ready for this. It’s a great honour and I look forward, with my fellow jurors, to watching some great films from around the world. When you think of Cannes you think of world cinema. And as films have always been like dreams to me, this is a dream come true."

We don't yet know which film and film-makers will be competing at Cannes 2010 but it looks set to be another great showcase of high calibre directorial talent. I can’t wait for the red carpet to be laid, the show to begin. Lets see who walks away with this years coveted Palme d'Or.

If you wish to be kept up to date with what is going on at the Cannes 2010 film festival than Indie Movies Online will be providing coverage for the duration of the 2010 festival. Indie Movies Online provide free movies online.

Being Organised is the Key to Success

Our world is developing and evolving quickly and today we live in a fast moving information age. The flow of information is moving so fast that at times it seems impossible to keep up. People are rushing around, our work load is usually overbooked, there are not enough hours in the day and everyone appears stressed.

Let’s face it in the real world some things we have no control over, but we do have control over how we manage these things either at home or at our place of work.

Benjamin Franklin once said “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” By getting your life and work in order will help increase your sense of self-esteem, confidence, and pride. Better organisation will help you to reach your goals in life and in time help you become an extremely successful person. Without some form of organisational structure your life could become chaotic and your days could be full of stress.

Surely we all want to make our lives easier so it is advisable to take some time to get organized! The best way to do this is by using a day planner / personal organiser ( Terminplaner - hee hee i'm in the process of learning German). These are usually small (ish) portable folders / books which usually containing a diary, calendar, address book, and other sections which help you to organise your time and information. Digital day planners / personal organisers and online organisers are also available.

Day planners / personal organisers are the perfect tools to help people organise their busy schedule, keep track of upcoming events, and maintain a list of ongoing tasks they need to accomplish. Some day planners even contain useful other items such as maps, magnifying glasses, telephone codes and notepaper.

The most famous branded (and in my opinion the best on the market) day planners are those made by Filofax. The name Filofax has become synonymous with personal organisers and its brand name is now generally used to describe all types of personal organisers / day planners.

There are many advantages to getting yourself organised that include reduced stress, saving time, and working more efficiently. It is even economical to make sure you are organised. By taking the time to plan and organise your life or work, you'll end up saving time and/or money. Generally for me I find that since I have used a day planner I can better manage my time (work and social) and prioritise all my daily tasks. In my mind things now seem to fall into place when working within deadlines and limits. I have managed to achieve more balance in my life.

Also I just want to finish by saying that by becoming more organised does not mean that all the spontaneity and fun of life goes away. In fact I have found that it actually increases my ability to accomplish more and enjoy my life to its fullest.

So go get organised and take one more step towards your goals.
